Pastor Berthold Korte, son of Heinrich & Agnes Korte, was born 26 November 1901 in Lockstedt, Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). He arrived in the United States on 17 October 1928 aboard the SS Berlin at the port of New York City. He was headed for a seminary in Maywood, Illinois. He had completed his theological education at the Breklum and Kropp Seminaries in Germany. He was ordained 26 May 1929 and married on 9 July 1929 to Maria Koehler from Leussow, Germany. They had four children: Inga (Korte) Knappe, Bert, Rudy, and Gerhard.
From 1929-1934, Pastor Korte served the parish of Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center, Iowa. In July 1934, he was called to Zion Lutheran Church in Bellwood, Illinois.
He later taught at the Lutheran Seminary in Chicago (currently the Lutheran School of Theology - Chicago).
Dr. Korte died in April 1985 in Chicago.
