Ron Franz, son of Rudolph Franz & Mollie Budfuloski, was born 20 October 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas.

Ron played basketball for the University of Kansas. He was drafted by the NBA (National Basketball Association) Detroit Pistons in 1967. At the same time, in the ABA (American Basketball Association) draft of 1967, Ron was picked up by the Oakland Oaks and chose to join the Oakland team. He was traded to the New Orleans Buccaneers in 1968. He later played for the Miami Floridians, Memphis Tams, Dallas Chaparrals. He also played briefly in the European Professional Basketball League for the Swiss Alpines. He was a small forward.

He died 3 October 2022 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Through his mother's side, Ron's Volga German ancestors came from the colony of Preuss.
