History: 

Bergtal was a colony founded in 1864 north of Samara. The original (German) colonists came from Poland. They were joined by colonists relocating from the Black Sea region.

Church: 

Bergtal was founded by Lutheran colonists. Over time, they were joined by Catholics and Baptists.
