Emanuel Lutheran Church - Milberger

Early in 1885, a group of German Lutherans who had immigrated from Russia gathered under the leadership of Pastor J. Wittig. Later that same year, a congregation was organized under the leadership of Pastor A. F. Augustin - on 26 April 1885. The charter for this congregation was dated 25 May 1885 and was filed at the State house in Topeka on 26 August 1885. Charter members: Adam Dietz, George Keil, Adam Karst, Jacob Becker, Peter Deines, John J. Michaelis, and Fred Keil.

The first few years, a stone building about one mile south of the present church served as a meeting place for worship and teaching God's Word. In 1890, a prairie-frame building was erected. This building was improved through the years by replacing the big black heading stove with a coal furnace and later with a gas floor furnace. This old frame structure served the congregation for over seventy years. In 1960-61, a new structure was built.

Eventually, Emanuel Lutheran Church was affiliated with the American Lutheran Church.

In 1969, Emanuel Lutheran Church and neighboring Immanuel Lutheran Church merged to form United Immanuel Lutheran Church.
