History
Peterstal was founded in 1903 on the right bank of the Kuma River. Volga German colonists also settled there.
Peterstal was known by the Russian name of Mezentsevo, but today is called Selivanovka. Today, Selivanovka serves as the administrative center for the municipality that includes the former village of Ruhental which was located immediately north of Peterstal.
