History:
The first inhabitants of what this area came in the 1890s. In 1908, an official survey was laid out, and in 1909 the first immigrants arrived in response to the Stolypin land reforms. These first settlers came from the lower Don River provinces which is believed to be why the settlement was called Azov.
Over time, Germans from surrounding villages as well as those returning from Kazakhstan settled in Azov. Since 1992, Azov has been the administrative center of the Azov German National District.
