Johann Christoph Kaltner (also spelled Költner, Kältner, Kaltener, or Caltener on various documents), son of Johann Wilhelm Kaltner & Anna (Elisabetha) Catharina Waltmann/Waldmann, was baptized on 27 February 1744 in the Catholic Church of Westernkotten (today called Bad-Westernkotten), 6 kilometers south of Lippstadt, in Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia). He married Anna Nagel.
They immigrated to Russia, and settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 58.
Christoph Kaltner (age 27), and his wife Anna née Nagel (widow of Hell) (age 45), and second wife Margaretha Wilhelmina née Schutt are recorded on the 1776 Katharinenstadt Grundbuch [Land Register] in Household No. 85.
On the 1798 Census of Katharinenstadt, Johann Christoph and his second wife are recorded in Household No. Ka133.
The 1776 Katharinenstadt Land Register records that Christoph Kaltner was born in Westergothen bei Lippstadt and that Anna née Nagel was born in Ulden Münster.
