Discussion & Documentation

Johann David Steinbrenner, son of Johann David Steinbrenner & Anna Maria Breunig, was born on 1 February 1737 in Rappenau [today called Bad Rappenau] northwest of Heilbronn. He married Maria Elisabetha Brenner, daughter of Wilhelm Brenner, on 17 January 1758 in the Rappenau Evangelical Church.

They had a boy named Johann David who was born on 11 December 1758 in Rappenau.

Johann David Sr.'s family immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein), but they did not depart together. Johann David Steinbrenner left Altona, Duchy of Holstein, on 7 December 1761 under the leadership of Johannes Booss. This group arrived in the city of Flensburg, Duchy of Schleswig, on 12 December 1761. His wife and his son departed from Altona on 21 June 1762, under the leadership of Georg Michel Zürn. They arrived in the city of Flensburg on 26 June 1762.

The parish register of Joldelund [Denmark] records the baptisms of twins born to Johann David Steinbrenner & Maria Elisabeth Koos: (1) Christina Catharina, baptized 10 October 1763; and (2) Georg Wilhelm, baptized 11 October 1763.

Johann David's family remained in Denmark until 24 April 1765, when they immigrated to Russia. They arrived in the Volga German colony of Rosenheim on 15 March 1766, and are recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 38.

There are no Steinbrenners recorded in Rosenheim on the 1798 Census, and it would appear that the surname had died out by then.
