Johann Karg, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Nikolaus, age 12; Maria, age 6) arrived from Lübeck via Reval [Estonia] at the port of Oranienbaum on 27 May 1766 aboard a pinque named Слон (Slon - Elephant in Russian) under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.
Johann Georg Karg (age 36), a farmer, his wife Anna Maria (age 41), and children (Johann Nikolaus, age 12; Maria Elisabeth, age 6) are recorded on the 1767 census of Frank in Household No. 17. They had arrived in Frank in 1767.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Karg came from the German region of Erbach. The 1767 census records that Johann Georg Karg came from the German village of Rimhardt [?] in the Erbach region.
A researcher has proposed that this village is from Rimhorn, near Höchst im Odenwald. The Karg surname is common in Rimhorn, but no matching family has been located in the Rimhorn parish records.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Karg family among the Volga German colonies.
