Celebrating 250 Years of Volga German Heritage

As part of its seminar series in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the German colonies along the Volga River in Russia, the Volga German Institute at Fairfield University sent Dr. Brent Mai, VGI Director, to speak at an all-day event at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, on Saturday, 23 July 2016. These seminars featured the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the colonies of Dönhof and Messer. The Deines family whose original immigrant family settled in Dönhof also held a Family Reunion during this event.
Dr. Mai presented several sessions:
- Introduction to Volga Germans and their Heritage
- The Geography of the Volga Germans
- Genealogical Resources for Volga Germans
- Deines Family History
- Volga Germans Today
During the evening banquet, Dr. Mai was the featured speaker on the topic of "The History of Dönhof."
