Discussion & Documentation

The marriage of Johann Nicolaus Schlotthauer, son of Johann Valentin Schlotthauer, and Susanna Gauss, daughter of Andreas Gauss is recorded in the parish register of Ilbeshausen on 30 July 1743. Their son Johannes was baptized there on 19 November 1745.

The marriage of Johannes Schlotthauer and Anna Maria Eckert is recorded on 9 April 1766 in the parish register of Spielberg.

Johann Schlotthauer, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard the snow-brig named Christina under the command of Skipper Jacob Stappenberg.

The couple settled in the Volga German colony of Huck on 1 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 Census in Household No. 11 along with the orphan Eva Katharina Rimmel, daughter of the deceased Johannes Rimmel. The 1767 records no relationship between the Schlotthauer and Rimmel families.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann[es] Schlotthauer came from the German region of Isenburg while the 1767 census records that he came from the German region of Darmstadt.
