Discussion & Documentation

Johann Adam Maÿ was born 12 October 1749 in the German village of Langendiebach.

He arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Die Perle with skipper Thomson at the helm. He is recorded on the arrival records in Oranienbaum as the servant of Johann Heinrich Büchsenschütz.

He settled in the Volga German colony of Kolb on 13 May 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 25 as a daylaborer (Lohnarbeiter).

Adam is still living in Kolb at the time of the 1798 Census and is recorded there in Household No. Ko17.

He does not appear to have had any surviving male descendants through which this Maÿ family continues among the Volga German colonies.
