Discussion & Documentation

Johann Daniel Altag from Barksen married on 3 November 1774 in Kleinenbremen to Anna Catharina Elisabet Monkhaff.

Among the baptisms of the children born to Johann Daniel Altag & Anna Catharina Elisabet Monkhaff recorded in the parish register of Kleinenbremen are: (1) Friedrich Christian, born 13 June 1786, baptized 17 June 1786; and (2) Carl Heinrich, born 1 May 1791, baptized 8 May 1791.

Both Friedrich & Karl were soldiers in the Napoleonic army that invaded Russia. Friedrich, a musketeer, was captured by the Russians.

Friedrich Altag was originally settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar and was assigned to the household of Just Ritter. Milovidov records that in 1814 Friedrich had a mother and sister who still resided in Kleinenbremen and 9 brothers in the service.

He is recorded on the 1834 census of Messer in Household No. 187 along with a note that he moved to the colony of Franzosen in 1825.

Friedrich Altag from Messer and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Franzosen in Household No. 109 along with a note that he died there in 1830.

Friedrich (junior) Altag, son of Friedrich Altag, is recorded on the 1850 census of Franzosen in Household No. 131 along with a note that he moved back to Messer.

Johann Friedrich Altach from Franzosen and his family are recorded on the 1834-1850 Messer Family List in Household No. 239.

Friedrich (junior) Altag and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Messer in Household No. 188.

Milovidov records that Johann Altag came from the German town of Klein[en]bremen in the region of Westfalen.
