Johann Baptist Cattaneo, son of Thomas and Ursula Cattaneo, was born 27 June 1746 in Lavin, Graubünden Kanton, Switzerland. He studied at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Zürich, Switzerland, and was ordained 26 June 1766 in nearby Süs. He married Barbara Thomas.
From 1767 to 1771, he served the parish in Fläsch, Graubünden Kanton, Switzerland. In 1771 and 1772, he served the parish in Schuders and from 1772 to 1784, he was in St. Antönien. In February 1784, he received a call to serve the Reformed parish in the Volga German colony of Norka where he was officially installed on 31 August 1784. He served there until his death on 16 January 1831.
Cattaneo Family in Sarepta
Thomas Cattaneo, son of the Rev. Johann Baptist Cattaneo & Barbara Thomas, was born on 25 September 1777 in St. Antönien, Graubünden Kanton, in Switzerland. He moved to Russia along with his parents and settled in the Volga German colony of Norka. He moved to Sarepta arriving there on 25 May 1786.
