Discussion & Documentation

Johann Nicolaus Müller, son of Johannes & Anna Maria Müller, was born in November 1737 in Wiedermus. Anna Dorothea, daughter of Friedrich & Anna Margaretha Weÿgandt, was born on 4 March 1737 in Wiedermus. Johann Nicolaus Müller and Anna Dorothea Weÿgandt were married on 6 March 1760. The baptisms of three children, each born in Wiedermus, are recorded in the Eckartshausen parish records: (1) Anna Christina, born 29 February 1761; (2) Anna Catharina, born 1 August 1763; and (3) Johann Heinrich, born 20 March 1766.

Nikolaus Müller, a farmer, his wife Anna Dorothea, children (Christina, age 6; Katharina, age 3; Johann Heinrich, age ½), and aunts (Elisabeth, age 50; Anna Margaretha, age 45) [surname Bäcker] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 August 1766 aboard the pink Slon under the command of Lieutenant Sergey Panov.

Nikolaus Müller and his family [second wife: Anna Margaretha; children by his first wife: Christina (age 7), Katharina (age 4), and Johann Heinrich (age 1½)] settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 15 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12, along with his aunt Margaretha Bäcker (age 60).

Nikolaus Müller, his wife Anna Margaretha, and children (Christina, age 15; Katharina, age 13; Johann Heinrich, age 9) are recorded on the 1775 census of Norka in Household No. 17 along with Margaretha Bäcker, this time identified as his mother-in-law.

Nikolaus Müller, his wife Margaretha Hoffmann, son Johann Heinrich, daughter-in-law Katharina Moor, and grandson Johann Peter (age 4) are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr017.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Nikolaus Müller came from the German region of Isenburg.
