Andreas Schäfer, a farmer, his wife Anna, and his mother-in-law Margaretha [surname not recorded] arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 2 August 1766 aboard an English frigate named Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.
Andreas Schäffer [sic], his [new] wife Catharina, and [mother-in-law] Margaretha Kint are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
Andreas Schäfer (age 39), a farmer, his wife Elisabeth (age 21), and son Johann (age 9-months) are recorded on the 1767 census of Philippsfeld in Household No. 32. They had arrived in Philippsfeld on 3 August 1767.
In 1776, Andreas Schäfer and his daughter moved from Zürich to Philippsfeld.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Schäfer came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that Konrad Wagner came from the German village of Lingelbach in Hessen.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
