Discussion & Documentation

Johann Heinrich Meier, a blacksmith (Schmied), and his wife Anna Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 18 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 15 July 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 89 along with their newborn daughter, Anna Margaretha.

Anna Margaretha's father, Jacob Klamm, accompanied them on the same ship and also settled in Preuss. He is recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 141 with a note that he is living with Heinrich Meier and his family.

The 1767 census records that Heinrich Meier came from the German village of Wintzenheim in Elsass.
