Georg Steinbeck, a farmer, his wife Anna, and sons (Christoph, age 18; Gottlieb, age 14; Immanuel, age 11) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 9 June 1766 aboard the ship Mann und Frau under the command of Skipper Daniel Berg.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Preuss on 16 August 1767. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 142 with a note that he is living in Saratov.  Another note records that he relocated to Brabander in 1768.

Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that the family is from the German region of Dessau.
