Melchior Helwig, a farmer, his wife Eva Margaretha, and children (Peter, age 20; Friedrich Adolph, age 15; Johannes, age 10; Katharina, age 3) are recorded on the 1767 census of Norka in Household No. 44. They had arrived in Norka on 15 August 1767.

Daughter Anna Katharina Müller née Helwig and her family are recorded on the 1798 census of Norka in Household No. Nr095.

The 1767 census records that Melchior Helwig came from the German district of Isenburg.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Helwig family among the Volga German colonies.
