Discussion & Documentation

Just Köhler (age 18) settled in the Volga German colony of Norka on 15 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 5 living with the family of Johannes Hölzer. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Köhler and Hölzer families.

[The Idt & Rauschenbach publication records this Just Köhler as Jost Geier and identifies him as the nephew of Johannes Hölzer. This Jost Geier had arrived with his mother Maria Elisabeth from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 28 July 1766 aboard a Russian galliot named Стрельна (Strelna - a village near St. Petersburg) under the command of Midshipman Login Sornev. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that this Jost Geier came from the German region of Isenburg.]

There are no known surviving male lines of this Köhler [or Geier] line among the Volga German colonies.
