Johann Kärst, a carpenter, and his wife Christina arrived from Danzig at the port of Oranienbaum on 4 May 1766 aboard a ship under the command of Skipper Jacob Janson.

They may be related to the Karst family that is recorded on the 1798 census of Hussenbach in Household No. Hs038.

The death of Johann Karst in 1798 is recorded on the 1811 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 38.

The death of Jakob Karst, son of Johann Karst, in 1831 is recorded on the 1834 census of Hussenbach in Household No. 59.

The widow of Friedrich Karst [mis-translated as Kareten on the 1798 census published by AHSGR] and son (Johann Jakob, age 19) are recorded on the 1798 census of Holstein in Household No. Ho38.

The death of Jakob Karst in 1831 is recorded on the 1834 census of Holstein in Household No. 59.

The death of Johann Georg Karst, son of Jakob Karst, in 1847 is recorded on the 1850 census of Holstein in Household No. 131.

Georg Adam Karst, the son of Johann Georg Karst, and his family moved from Holstein to Oberdorf in 1852.

Georg Adam Karst and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Oberdorf in Household No. 35.

Johann Friedrich Karst, son of Jakob Karst, and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Eckheim.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Kärst came from the German village of Schöningen.
