Philipp Stang, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 16 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Frau Diederika (Lady Diederika) under the command of Skipper Johann Joachim Lunau.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Walter on 10 September 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census along with his new wife Elisabeth.
Widower Philipp Stang and his son Johann Heinrich are recorded on the 1798 census of Walter in Household No. Wt013.
Heinrich Stang and his wife are recorded on the 1834 census of Walter in Household No. 64.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Philipp Stang came from the German region of Darmstadt. The 1767 census records that Philipp Stang came from the German village of Lautertal in the Hessen-Darmstadt region.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Stang family among the Volga German colonies.
[Some translations conflate the surname of Stang with that of Stamm, which is also recorded in Walter.]
