Discussion & Documentation

Johann Friedrich Fehr, a single carpenter (Tischler), arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a ship named Die Zwei Gebrüder (The Two Brothers) under the command of Skipper Nicolaus Peter Pinck.

Fried. Fahr [sic], his wife Anna, and daughter Christina (born en route) are recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

Johann Friedrich Fehr and his wife Anna are recorded on the 1767 census of Boisroux in Household No. 71 along with orphaned brothers Philipp Heinrich (age 18) and Georg (age 16) Schneider.  A note accompanying the census states that they all relocated to the colony of Schönchen in 1768. Another note accompanying the 1798 census records that Friedrich Fehr and his family moved from Boisroux to Schönchen in 1772.

In 1788, Friedrich Fehr and his family moved from Schönchen to Ober-Monjou.

Widow Elisabeth Leonhardt née Fehr, probable daughter of Friedrich Fehr, and her son are recorded on the 1798 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. Om75.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Friedrich Fehr came from the German region of Mecklenbug. The 1767 census records that Johann Friedrich Fehr came from the German village of Schwerin in the Mecklenburg region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
