Discussion & Documentation

Andreas Schäfer, a miller (Müller), and his wife Charlotte Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a snow-brig named Der Jäger (The Hunter) under the command of Skipper Gabriel Will.

Andreas Schaeffer [sic] is recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

They arrived in the Volga German colony of Warenburg on 12 May 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 142.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Andreas Schäfer came from the German region of Rochel [Runkel?]. The 1767 census records that Andreas Schäfer came from the German village of Hofen in the Runkel region.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Schäfer family among the Volga German colonies.
