Johann Gerhardt, a farmer, and his wife Katharina arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 21 July 1766 aboard a koff named Alette under the command of Skipper Wybe Hendricks.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Bangert on 26 June 1767. Johann died there on 25 August 1767 and Katharina remarried to the widower Egidius Huber. They are recorded on the 1767 census of Bangert in Household No. 27 along with Johann Gerhardt's newborn son, Johannes (3 months old).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Gerhardt came from the German district of Darmstadt.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Gerhardt family among the Volga German colonies.
