Discussion & Documentation

There are two Pfannenstiel families that arrived in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 16 June 1766. They are reported by Tatyana (via the forum of wolgadeutsche.net) to be brothers - perhaps sons of Johann Valentin Pfannenstiel (born 1712) & Maria Katharina Fussinger (born 1713). Further research is needed to confirm this relationship.

(1) Johann Peter Pfannenstiel was born 13 May 1733 in Ober-Hilbersheim.

Peter Pfannenstiel, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Maria Katharina, and sons (Peter, age 9; Michael, age 1½) are recorded on the 1767 census of Mariental in Household No. 7 along with two orphaned sisters (Maria Elisabeth Hertz, age 13; Anna Maria Hertz, age 10). A relationship between the Pfannenstiel and Hertz families is not recorded on the 1767 census.

Michael Pfannenstiel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Mariental in Household No. Mt35.

In 1790, Adam Pfannenstiel moved from Mariental to Ober-Monjou.

Adam Pfannenstiel and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. Om55.

Sophia Margaretha Pfannenstiel and her son have resided temporarily in several colonies since 1784 when her husband was captured from Mariental by the Kirghiz. The 1798 census records that she and her children are in the colony of Beideck (Bd91).

The 1767 census records that Peter Pfannenstiel came from the German village of Manderscheid in the Kurtrier region.

(2) Michael Pfannenstiel, a craftsman (Handwerker), his wife Anna Margaretha, and son Peter (age 2) are recorded on the 1767 census of Mariental in Household No. 10.

The 1767 census records that Michael Pfannenstiel came from the German village of Büdesheim in the Kurtrier region.
