The births of the following children (born in nearby Steinberg) are recorded in the parish register of Hirzenhain: (1) Johann Jacob, born 26 March 1739, baptized 27 March 1739; (2) Johannes, born 16 August 1742, baptized 19 August 1742; and (3) Johann Peter, born 6 February 1746, baptized 8 February 1746.

Son Johann Jacob Gross married on 11 May 1764 to Anna Catharina Schleuning, daughter of Johann Heinrich Schleuning from Steinberg. Anna Catharina Schleuning had been born 13 December 1742 and baptized 16 December 1742. Johann Jacob and Anna Catharina had a son Johannes who was born 14 March 1765 and baptized 17 March 1765.

Son Johannes Gross married on 10 March 1766 to Maria Elisabetha Hämel, daughter of Johannes Hämel & Anna Margaretha Schauermann. Maria Elisabetha Hämel had been born 17 March 1739 and baptized 20 March 1739.

Jakob Gross, a farmer, his wife Anna, and son Johann (age 1½) along with his brother Johann[es] Gross, a farmer, and his wife Maria arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum 4 July 1766 aboard the English frigate Love & Unity under the command of Skipper Thomas Fairfax.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Schulz on 15 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Households No. 22 & 23.

The 1767 census records that both Jakob & Johann came from the German village of Litolberg in the region of Stolberg.
