Jakob Dobi, a farmer, his wife Anna, and children (Maria Magdalena, age 19; Appolonia, age 13; Maria, age 10; Andreas, age 5¼) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 11 June 1766 aboard a galliot named Der Junge Mattias (The Young Mattias) under the command of Skipper David Wohlert.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Hildmann on 20 June 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 20 under the surname Tobi.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Jakob Dobi came from the German region of Löwenstein while the 1767 census records that Jakob Toby came from the German region of Bitter.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Dobi family among the Volga German colonies.
