Discussion & Documentation

Konrad Herel [sic], a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 15 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Diana under the command of Skipper Markus Draguhn.

Conrad Hirl [sic] is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.

He arrived in the Volga German colony of Brabander on 19 August 1767 and is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 127.

The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Konrad Herel came from the German region of Bayern (Bavaria). The 1767 census records that Konrad Herel came from the village of Busendorf in Bayern (Bavaria).

There are no known surviving male lines of this Herl family among the Volga German colonies.
