Discussion & Documentation

Leonhard Wittmann, a tailor (Schneider), his wife Anna, and his sister Anna (age 21) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a galliot named Kronstadt under the command of Lieutenant Samuel Gibbs.

They settled in the Volga German colony of Holstein on 7 July 1767 and are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 35.

The 1767 census records that Leonhard Wittmann came from the German village of Nelzinei (?) near Darmstadt.
