Karl Winkelmann, a single farmer, arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 12 September 1766 aboard an English frigate under the command of Skipper Adam Beerfeier.
Carl von Winckelmann is recorded on the list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767.
He settled in the Volga German colony of Susannental on 3 August 1767 and is recorded there as Karl von Winkelmann on the 1767 census in Household No. 1 along wth his new wife, Maria. The colony was also known as Winkelmann after this man who served as its first mayor (Vorsteher).
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Karl Winkelmann was a farmer while the 1767 census records that he was a lieutenant.
Both the Oranienbaum passenger list and the 1767 census record that Karl Winkelmann came from the German region of Graz.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
