Johann Jakob Wittheft, a craftsman (Handwerker), settled in the Volga German colony of Schulz on 8 September 1766. He and his wife are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 15.

The 1767 census records that Johann Jakob Wittheft came from the German city of Berlin in the region of Prussia. The 1767 census also records that his wife, Cecilia, came from the Danish village of Altenau.
