Peter Hild, a farmer, settled in the Volga German colony of Louis on 14 June 1766. He married Katharina Bauer and they are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 47.  An orphan, Matthias (surname not recorded) is also recorded in the household with them. Widower Johannes Bauer, presumed to be the father of Katharina, is also recorded in Household No. 47.

In 1788, Peter Hilt and his family moved from Louis to Mariental.

The 1767 census records that Peter Hild came from the German village of Busendorf in the region of Lothringen.
