Valentin Schweffel, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Reinwald on 14 July 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29.

In 1828, Jakob Schweffel moved from Reinwald to Dehler.

The 1767 census records that Valentin Schweffel came from the German village of Mannheim in the Kurpfalz region.
