Wilhelm Schmallenberg was born in approximately 1771 in the German region of Mecklenberg. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Frank. He is recorded there on the 1834 Census of Frank in Household No. 292 with a note that he died there in 1827.
There do not appear to be any surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
