Johann Konrad Keil was born about 1791 in the German village of Gemen. He was a farmer.
Konrad Keil served as a soldier in the 2nd Guard Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 his father, three brothers, and a sister were still living in Gemen.
He was settled in the Volga German colony of Zürich and assigned to the household of Nikolaus Müller.
He is recorded on the 1834 census of Zürich in Household No. 131 with a note that he moved to another (illegible) colony.
Milovidov records that Johann Konrad Keil came from the German village of Gemen in the region of Hessen-Darmstadt. There is a village named Gemen in Nordrhein-Westfalen [not in the Hessen-Darmstadt area], so more research is needed to locate this village.
