Discussion & Documentation

André (Andreas) Kohl was born in approximately 1789, probably in France. He served in Napoleon's army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians, and in 1812, was settled in the Volga German colony of Katharinenstadt.

He is recorded on the 1834 census of Katharinenstadt in Household No. 345 along with a note that he had moved to the colony of Ober-Monjou in 1834.

The death of Andreas Kohl in 1838 is recorded on the 1850 census of Ober-Monjou in Household No. 170.

There are no known surviving male lines of this Kohl family among the Volga German colonies.
