Karl Spelten [sic] was born in approximately 1795 in the town of Düsseldorf.
He served as a soldier in the 7th Hussar Regiment of Napoleon's Army. He fought against the Russians and was captured.
Milovidov records that as of 1814 his father, mother, two brother, and a sister were still living in Düsseldorf.
Belousov records that he was originally settled in the colony of Kamenka and later relocated to the colony of Seelmann.
Karl Spendel is recorded on the 1834 census of Seelmann in Household No. 19.
He is recorded on the 1850 census of Seelmann in Household No. 26.
He is recorded on the 1857 census of Seelmann in Household No. 35.
Milovidov records that Karl Spelten [sic] came from the town of Düsseldorf in the German region of Westfalen.
