Discussion & Documentation

Peter Schwartz was born in approximately 1790 in the historical region of Lotharingia.

He served as an infantryman in Napoleon's Army and fought against the Russians. He was captured by the Russians.

Milovidov records that as of 1814 he had a brother and three sisters still living in the village of Tolstein.

Peter Schwartz was settled in the Volga German colony of Schwed in 1814 in the Household of Adam Mahler.

The marriage of Peter Schwarz on 26 January 1815 in Herzog to Margaretha Weigel is recorded in the parish register of Rohleder. The marriage register records that he was from Lotharingin.

He resettled to Louis. He is recorded there on the 1834 census of Louis in Household No. 113 along with a note that he had died there in 1828.

The parish register of Mariental (including Louis) records that Peter Schwarz died on 9 June 1828 in Louis. His widow (Margaretha née Weigel) remarried on 23 August 1828 to Georg Orth.

Milovidov records that Peter Schwartz came from the town of Tolstein in the region of Lotharingia. There is not a village named Tolstein in Germany. However, there is a village named Dalstein located in the Elsass-Lothringen region along the German/French border. Further research is needed to verify this as the location of Peter Schwartz before entering the service of Napoleon's Army.
