Lorenz Stengel, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental on 14 June 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 74 along with his stepdaughter.

The 1767 census records that Lorenz Stengel came from the German district of Mühlingen.
