Discussion & Documentation

Two orphaned sisters (Maria Elisabeth Hertz, age 13; Anna Maria Hertz, age 10) settled in the Volga German colony of Mariental. They are recorded on the 1767 census in Household No. 7 along with the Peter Pfannenstiel family. A relationship between the Hertz and Pfannenstiel family is not recorded on the 1767 census.

The 1767 census records that the Hertz sisters came from the German village of Dudeldorf in the Kurtrier region.

There are no surviving male descendants of this family among the Volga German colonies.
