Johann Ludwig Lenz, his wife Clara, and his mother Anna Margaretha arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 19 July 1766 aboard a pinque named Каргополь (Kargopol: a Russian City) under the command of Captain Lieutenant Moses Davydov.
They settled in the Volga German colony of Krasnoyar on 20 July 1767. Ludwig Lenz is recorded there as a widower on the 1767 census in Household No. 70.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Ludwig Lenz was a stonemason while the 1767 census records that he was a farmer.
Both documents record that Johann Ludwig Lenz came from the German region of Laubach.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Lenz family among the Volga German colonies.
