Widow Maria Welter, a farmer's wife, and her daughter Margaretha (age 17) settled in the Volga German colony of Chasselois on 2 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 12.

The 1767 census records that Maria Welter came from the German region of Trier.
