Discussion & Documentation

Christian Stapel is recorded on 2 June 1764 in the Danish colony of Königsberge. He had married Barbara, the widow of Johann Georg Reisig, on 13 February 1764. [See Reisig Family.]

The combined Stapel / Reisig family immigrated to Russia.

Christian Stabel, a farmer, his wife Anna Barbara, children (Georg Friedrich, age 3; Maria Franziska, age ½), and [step-children] (Johann Jakob [Reisig], age 17; Georg Bernhard [Reisig], age 15; Daniel [Reisig], age 11) are recorded on the 1767 census of Shcherbakovka in Household No. 30. They had arrived in Shcherbakovka on 15 June 1765.

In 1788, Georg Friedrich Stabel moved from Shcherbakovka to Stephan.

Georg Friedrich Stabel from Shcherbakovka and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Stephan in Household No. Sp30.

Friedrich Stabel and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Stephan in Household No. 48.

Jakob Stabel and Johann Franz Stabel sons of Friedrich Stabel, and their families are recorded on the 1834 census of Stephan in Household No. 45.

Anna Maria Stabel, widow of Jakob Stabel, and Johann Franz Stabel from Stephan and their families are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

The 1767 census records that Christian Stabel came from the German village of Seelenberg.

[Some early translations erroneously record this surname as Stoppel.]
