Kaspar Schmidt, a tailor (Schneider), and his wife settled in the Volga German colony of Beauregard on 27 August 1766. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 29 along with their 3-week-old son Johann.

The 1767 census records that Kaspar Schmidt came from the German region of Würzburg.
