Johann Philipp Hammer, a "sattler", settled in the Volga German colony of Shcherbakovka in 1765. He is recorded there on the 1767 census in Household No. 33.

Johann Georg Hammer from Shcherbakovka and his family are recorded on the 1857 census of Gnadentau.

The 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Geilhausen.
