Jacob Gropp [sic], son of Jacob & Anna Maria Gropp, was born 29 March 1730 and baptized 31 March 1730 in Rinklingen.
Jacob Krop [sic] immigrated to Schleswig-Holstein [Denmark] arriving in Flensburg on 22 May 1762. He swore an oath to the Danish King on 4 June 1762.
Jacob Gropp [sic] married in Sterup, Schleswig [Denmark] on 6 June 1762 to Elisabetha Schmidt, daughter of Andreas & Barbara Schmidt. She had been born21 April 1734 and baptized 23 April 1734 in Stebbach.
The baptism of a daughter (Christina) in 1763 is recorded in the parish register of Översee [Denmark].
As of 4 May 1765, they were living in the Danish colony of Friderichsholm. On 14 May 1765, Jakob petitioned to leave Denmark and joined the migration to Russia.
Jakob Kropp, a farmer, and his family settled in the Volga German colony of Balzer on 28 March 1766.
Jakob Kropp, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Christina, age 5; Jacobina, age 1; Johannes, age 2-days) are recorded on the 1767 census of Balzer in Household No. 31.
Jakob Grob, his wife Elisabeth, and children (Jakobina, age 8; Jakob, age 3; Johannes, age 1) are recorded n the 1775 census of Balzer in Household No. 4.
The Eichhorns record that Jacob Krob [sic] came from the German region of Schwaben (Swabia). The 1767 census records that Jakob Gropp came from the German region of Kurpfalz.
There are no known surviving male lines of this Gropp / Kropp family among the Volga German colonies.
