The baptisms of two sons born in Laufdorf to Johann Wilhelm & Anna Maria Gottfried are recorded in the parish register of Nauborn: (1) Johann Peter, born 17 March 1736; and (2) Johann Christian, born 13 October 1740.
Both of these sons arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 7 May 1766 aboard the galliot named Anna Katharina under the command of Skipper Daniel Heyer. They also arrived together in the Volga German colony of Kaneau on 7 June 1767.
(1) Johann Peter Gottfried, a farmer, his wife Anna, and sons (Johannes, age 8; Johann Georg, age 4; Heinrich, age 1½) arrived in Oranienbaum.

In 1789, Johann Georg Gottfried, son of Peter Gottfried, moved from Kaneau to Schaffhausen.
Georg Gottfried from Kaneau and his family are recorded on the 1798 census of Schaffhausen in Household No. Sh37.
The Gottfried family in Schaffhausen has only daughters, so the Gottfried surname does not continue in Schaffhausen.
(2) Johann Christian Gottfried, a farmer, and his wife Anna arrived in Oranienbaum.

The widow and children of Christian Gottfried are recorded on the 1798 census of Kaneau in Household No. Kn04.
Peter Andreas Gottfried (age 53) and his family are recorded on the 1834 census of Philippsfeld in Household No. 27. They are believed to be connected to this Gottfried family in Kaneau.
The 1850 census of Rosental records that the families of Andreas Gottfried, Christian Gottfried, Christian Gottfried, and Gottfried Gottfried moved from Kaneau to Rosental in 1849.
Christian Gottfried and Gottlieb Gottfried and their families are recorded on an 1865 list of colonists resettled to Lilienfeld along with a note that they had arrived in Lilienfeld from Kaneau on 7 March 1859.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Christian Gottfried came from the German region of Peterstal while the 1767 census records that he came from the German village of Gondorf. The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Johann Peter Gottfried came from the German region of Braunfels while the 1767 census reports that he came from the German region of Kursdorf. This Gondorf and Kursdorf are believed to be the same place, which could be today what is called Kobern-Gondorf, southwest of Braunfels.
