Paulus Grapp, a farmer, his wife Margaretha, and daughters (Barbara, age 7; Anna, age 5¼; Friederika, age 3; Gertrude, age ½) arrived from Lübeck at the port of Oranienbaum on 20 August 1766 aboard a galliot named Catharina Eleonora under the command of Skipper Peter Rehder.
Paulus Crab [sic], his wife Anna Margaretha, and daughters (Barbara, age 7; Anna Francisca, age 5; Johanna Friederica, age 3; Gertrud, age 1) are recorded on a list of colonists being transported from St. Petersburg to Saratov in 1767 along with a note that father Paulus and the two youngest daughters died in route.
Orphans Barbara Grapp (age 11) and her sister Franziska (age 10) are recorded on the 1767 census of Schäfer in Household No. 50 along with the Johann Georg Pauly family. They had arrived in Schäfer on 30 August 1767. The 1767 census does not record a relationship between the Grapp and the Pauly families.
The Oranienbaum passenger list records that Paulus Grapp came from the German region of Hessen. The 1767 census records that Barbara Grapp came from the German village of Hahn in the region of Hessen-Kassel.
There are no known surviving male lines of this family among the Volga German colonies.
