Historically, Ober-Bessingen was located in the county of Solms-Hohensolms until 1792 when it merged with Solms-Lich to become the Principality of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich in the Holy Roman Empire. Today, it is located in the Middle Hessen region of the German State of Hessen.
